Save Money at Target: Shop The Clearance Sale Going on Right Now!

Great kids stuff not just for Valentine's Day!

I had so much fun shopping at Target yesterday that I just had to share it with all of you and to give you a heads up on the great sale going on at Target right now. I didn’t include the phrase Valentine’s Day in the title because although there are mostly Valentine’s Day items in the sale, there are plenty of items you can use year round, not just for Valentine’s Day.

In the photo below, you can see all of the items I bought, except for one small package of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. The reason that’s not in the picture is that I had already given it to my husband who was at home working hard all day, while I was out having a ball bargain shopping. I figured he deserved a treat too!

All of the items below cost me $29.56 (that includes tax) but I saved $88.62! In case you think I am crazy for spending all of that money on Valentine’s Day items, below is a breakdown of what I got and how much I spent on each item. Now that you know me and how I like to save money, I am sure you KNOW I would never pay full price for all of this stuff (and I try not to pay full price for ANYTHING) but if I had paid full price for all of this, I would have paid $118.18!!!!

Got all of this for $29.56 at the Target Clearance Sale!

Okay, that picture above does look pretty pink, but honestly, it is not all for Valentine’s Day. When it comes to holiday clearance sales, you have to think outside of the box and discover new ways to use things that may seem like a holiday item to others. Follow along in the pictures below so you can see what I will be doing with all of these items. I won’t be saving even one single item for next Valentine’s Day!

Item:                                                                              How Much I Paid:

  • 1 lip gloss                                                                                 10 cents
  • 1 blank card with love stickers                                                  50 cents
  • 8 boxes of love stickers, 20 ct of boxes with 4 stickers each  30 cents per pink box of 20
  • 3 activity sets                                                                          10 cents for 1,
  •                                                                                            30 cents for each of the other 2
  • 1 box of pencils with puppies on them                                       60 cents
  • 4 sets of teacher stickers                                                        10 cents each
  • 1 set of cat stickers                                                                 10 cents each

All of these items are kid stickers, activity books, pencils and a lip gloss. I have four little relatives who love to do art projects. I sent them each a Christmas card in the mail with some stickers and according to their moms, they loved getting mail with goodies inside. So I decided to send a few of the same throughout the year because I think it’s important to make kids feel special. Maybe they will grow up doing the same for others. And anyway, who doesn’t love to get mail in their mailbox?

As for the teacher stickers, some are appropriate for those same kids, and I do have some teacher friends I may share them with. I haven’t decided yet.

The pencils and the pink boxes of stickers (below) will go to those same four relatives, PLUS I help my church prepare Operation Christmas Child boxes every year so the bulk of them will go to those kids in their shoebox gifts. Last year we filled 150 shoe boxes with gifts for children so for 30 cents a large box, it was definitely worth it!

These stickers will be great for Operation Christmas Child!

This candy below is mostly going to some of my relatives who like this kind of candy. My daughter loves the Fun Dip, and my mom can only eat dark chocolate, not milk chocolate so the York Peppermint Patties and Dove Dark Chocolate Hearts are going to her. She won’t have to buy candy for a very long time!  And well, okay, the rest we are keeping because my husband loves to keep our candy dish full, and our favorite candies to put in there are Hershey’s Kisses and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups!

If you work in a place that has a candy dish you need to keep full or know someone who likes chocolates and deserves a treat (I am sure we ALL know someone like that) head to Target asap to save money on all of this delicious chocolate. There were also other types of candy there as well. I saw Skittles and M and M’s if either of those floats your boat!

Item:                                                                                     How much I paid:

  • Fun Dip                                                                               $1.07 ( was $3.49)
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups                                              $1.49 (was $4.99, who pays that much for candy???)
  • Hershey’s Kisses                                                                $1.07 (was $3.59)
  • York Peppermint Patties                                                     $1.07 (was $3.59)
  • Dove Chocolate Hearts                                                      $1.10 (was $3.69)

You did well! I always think outside the box at those clearance sales. I am surprised at the things that people don’t pick up that I see the potential right away. Ribbon is one of those non-holiday things, for example. I love when baby clothes are that cheap. You can estimate the child’s size for the next year or two and put up some amazing outfits that are brand new. Rarely do they look damaged.

    Debra,

I think there’s a certain mentality to saving money and being creative with it. But a lot of people aren’t brought up that way so it’s all new to them. There are a lot of US out there though and I hope to spread the word to help others save money.
